Sensors for cassava and sugarcane

Versatile sensors can be used for in-field extraction of information about agricultural crops despite extremely challenging conditions including sensing through wet soil or through the hard thick skin of the crop itself.

With the goal of increasing the accuracy and energy-efficiency of sensors and making them more versatile, this research will attempt to create multi-purpose, tunable sensors out of highly-coupled sensing modalities (electrical, magnetic, electromagnetic, optical, etc.) with tunable transduction. In constructing these complex devices, this work aims to extract more data (and perhaps at farther distances) while scanning agricultural fields, factories, or other vast expanses.
