Welcome to the Versatile Electronic Systems Lab (VESL)! Our research group is interested in the fundamental question:
How much can we do with a single device?
In the past, electronic devices – the building blocks of electronic systems – were designed to be extremely good at one thing. For example, they would have a sharp resonance peak at a single frequency that would then be used for chosen purpose in the larger electronic system. Our research aims to create broadly-tunable devices that can be configured within a system, on demand. In this way, the versatile device provides a system with a desired temporary functionality, then readjusts to provide a different functionality for a given time later, and so on.
